In fairness to Chip, here in the U.S., there are many variants of the “Why did the chicken cross the road?” joke, which is why Chip said “I give up. Why?”. (One of my favorite answers to this question was one that I heard Cuddly Dudley say to Ray Rayner in the childhood television show I grew up with: “Because he wanted to lay it on the line.”)
